Real Fresh Weddings - Jen and Scott's Red Sox VS Yankees Wedding

Posted by

As we head into the end of baseball season (sniffle!) I want to share with you one of my favorite weddings--Jen and Scott’s Red Sox VS. Yankees wedding!

Jen found my baseball ticket save the dates back when I was just on Etsy, and we clicked instantly. Her joy and enthusiasm are contagious, and she was just a dream to work with. So you can imagine how excited I was when she came back for invitations, cards for her bridesmaids and groomsmen, escort cards, favor tags, the whole gamut! Any time Jen comes to me with a project I know it’s going to be fun! We still keep in touch, and I’m so delighted to share this fantastic wedding with all of you! Baseball couples--prepare to be inspired!

You had a pretty unique wedding theme! Tell us how you chose that.

Scott and I are both huge baseball fans. Of course I am a Red Sox fan and he is Yankees fan so this made the theme more fun! We also incorporated some Disney things like music, fonts, our cake topper was Mickey and Minnie in baseball uniforms, and of course our Mickey ears for our honeymoon to be in Disney world.

We thought of everything and it all flowed perfectly. For our baseball theme we even played baseball music! Yes we played Sweet Caroline along with New York New York. Our introduction song for the bridal party along with ourselves was Centerfield by John Fogerty. We also incorporated Be Our Guest for our Disney theme before dinner was served. We also did take me out to the ball game but the instrumental version.

Sounds like you really thought through the details! How did you manage all that planning?

I used Pinterest a lot along with just my imagination and trying to get baseball involved with everything having to do with our wedding. I was also planning the wedding before I was even engaged, haha, so I had lots of time and things to keep in mind and plan.

Did you incorporate any special traditions or rituals during your ceremony?

Not really besides being married in a church just let every other person on my side did. Our priest did mention in the homily about how much we love Disney world and he used some quotes having to do with baseball which was awesome.

What was your favorite part of your wedding day?

That's hard. Probably taking funny pictures in the photo booth we got. There were awesome props to use and we got to have a fun time. Or maybe it was shoving cake in Scott's face...no it had to have been our first dance! Being a dancer from age 2 to college, I've always wanted our first dance to be fun so I made sure to do just that! Three people knew about it, photographer, videographer and my sister so it was a surprise for EVERYONE! We started off with our song Me and You by Kenny Chesney but after the first chorus the music made a weird noise and we started off with the Carlton dance from fresh prince and ended with bye bye bye from Nsync. It was so fun choreographing the ten songs but also fun watching everyone enjoy the dance with us! Our wedding was extremely fun but that was definitely my favorite part.

What advice do you have for couples planning their upcoming weddings?

My advice is to plan ahead of schedule, take your time and don't rush anything. Sometimes doing stuff yourself makes stuff get done a lot better and perfect just like you want it to be. My other advice would be to not do the seating arrangements until last because I was doing my too early and changed them about thirty times. Good thing the page markers are easy to move around and are reusable.

Your wedding. Three words. Go.

Best. Wedding. Ever. Just kidding. How about: memorable baseball game. Our wedding was amazing and perfect. Every guest told us it was the best they've seen and some said it was better than theirs.

Let’s give a shout out to your vendors! (Boston couples, take note!)

Venue: Historic Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, MA. This was always our dream venue and was so glad we were able to work it out! My dad knows everyone that works there so we were treated like royalty and our wedding was beyond perfect! The Hawthorne does an amazing job.

Photographer: Jeffrey Andree. He actually went to high school with me. W had a hard time finding photographers that we could afford and he saw my Facebook status one day and said "don't book anyone until you see my work" so we waited. He was the last person we talked to and my dad told us "you're dumb not to choose him. He's amazing!" So we did and I'm glad I did. Jeff took awesome pictures of everyone not just Scott and I. I would recommend him to anyone. I never even knew he was there.

Invitations/Paper Goods: only from the best: Emily from Fresh Paper Studios! All my save the dates and invitations were from Emily. She was beyond amazing!! The church booklets we printed ourselves using photoshop.

Favors: Well, when is there ever a baseball game without peanuts and crackerjacks? So we gave crackerjacks with a glass bottle of coke along with the envelope seals with our monogram by Fresh Paper Studios.

Catering: catering was included with our package so it all came from the Hawthorne Hotel

Cake: our cake was from Montilios. It was a roller coaster ride with them but we stuck them out and in the end they did an outstanding job and our cake was a pure masterpiece and represented Scott and I in so many ways.

Flowers: from Dave Eng's. They are a family business and we've been getting our flowers from them my entire life. Jackie made our center pieces, bouquets, boutonnière sand corsages. Oh along with flower girl headband, pew markers and big bouquet for the church. Did I mention our flowers looked like baseballs? So they were amazing! My girls had round baseball bouquets and my throw bouquet was also a round baseball.

Dress/Suits/Accessories: David's Bridal and Men's Wearhouse. David's bridal was very accommodating and helped me out with everything and was so patient. Men's Wearhouse also was great. They didn't even mind when we kept changing the colors around and dressed mannequins so we could compare and make sure what they had on was what we wanted. We also made sure that every bridesmaid and groomsman was in accordance to baseball. The ladies wore a red dress with navy belt for Red Sox and then gray dresses with navy belt for the Yankees. The men all wore a dark charcoal suit. Red Sox guys had a red vest and navy tie and Yankee guys had gray vest and navy tie. Everyone matched :)

DJ/Band: we had the amazing Greg Gates from Entertainment Concepts. He did a great job and I have also known him since I was a child. He definitely kept everyone happy AND on the dance floor. He played from the cocktail hour all the way through to the last second.

Photo booth/video booth: Viral Photo Booth. They did amazing! They stayed the entire time and brought a huge table of props with funny hats, glasses, masks, boas, crowns etc. their booth as also huge. It could fit ten people and it did video! You were able to take three photos and then they would print two copies. One went to the person(s) in the booth and also one went into a photo album for them to write something next to their photos! They also put our monogram that Emily made for us on the bottom of attach photo strip. I also got a thumb drive and a CD of all the photos and videos. Both workers did an outstanding job and I would definitely recommend them. Oh they can also post to Facebook during event and they also put your event on a website. Awesome!

Thank you so much for sharing all of this, Jen! Congrats again to you and Scott (as you approach your one-year anniversary! Eee!)
