Shabby Chic Wedding Invitations That Are Anything But Shabby

Posted by

Say what you want about shabby chic weddings--I love them and I’m not embarrassed to admit it! Twinkle lights? Mason jars? I’m RSVPing, “Yes please!” So when Vicki and Angela asked if I could design custom invitations for their “elegant, shimmery, and a little shabby chic” wedding, I jumped at the chance.

But they also wanted something unique. Which made me happy because “unique” is my middle name. (Well Frances is my middle name. But in a different time and place and with different parents, maybe Unique would have been my middle name. Yeah probably not. Ok let’s just say I like to make unique invites and leave it at that.) So while there’s a place for pink flowers on top of a doily on top of burlap… this isn’t that place. The goal is modern and chic, with just a touch of “shab.”

Here’s what I came up with!

Twinkle Lights - Angela told me their wedding would be in a garden setting with “tons of twinkle lights.” This just screams romance to me. Twinkle lights make everything better, which is why I hang them above my deck and why I put them on an invitation! These also remind me of those cute garlands that everyone’s pinning on pinterest (but no one’s really taking the time to make, are they? If they are, I want one.)

Floral - So I could sit and draw flowers in my notebook all day. I am an eight year old girl. But for the sake of keeping these on the modern side, I think just a touch of cute flower illustrations tucked in with some cool font choices are just enough to hint at the romantic garden setting without going over the top.

Lace - What says “shabby chic” more than lace? But again, no one’s looking to go crazy lacey over here. Mixing some illustrated lace with some bold, vintage fonts was fun and gives these invites a bit of an edge.

Are you dying to know which invites they chose? (Yeah I was too!) And the winner is… Twinkle Lights! Vicki and Angela decided these were the perfect invitations for their garden wedding, and I’m so thrilled. Now I can’t wait until after the wedding so I can see photos of their beautiful day! (Or I may just have to fly down and crash it--Vicki, Angela, if you’re reading this, save me a mason jar of Chardonnay!)

What about you? Which would you pick? Leave a comment below! Or even better, drop me a line so we can start working together!
